Honest Software Reviews

GoHighLevel: An Honest Review From an Agency That Actually Uses It.

Full disclosure up front: we use a white-label version of GoHighLevel as our CRM layer, and we recommend it to the right clients. We call it the Volusia Digital CRM. We are also in the affiliate program, and if you sign up through the link on this page, we earn a recurring commission.
One clarification before we go further. GoHighLevel is our CRM. It is not our website platform. Our websites are custom-built on WordPress using high-performance builder tools, owned by our clients, fast, and purpose-built. GoHighLevel runs alongside those websites as a cost-effective marketing CRM that handles leads, automation, email, SMS, reputation, and scheduling. Two different layers, two different jobs. We do not sell GoHighLevel websites or GoHighLevel funnels as a substitute for a real website.
This page exists because if we are going to recommend a tool and earn something when you use it, you deserve the honest version, the good, the complicated, and the parts nobody else selling this platform wants to talk about.
The Honest Take

We like GoHighLevel. We also think it is creating a problem in the industry.

Both things are true.
For agencies and businesses that need one platform to cover a lot of ground, CRM, email, SMS, automation, calendars, pipelines, reputation, social scheduling, GoHighLevel is genuinely useful. We use it every day. We recommend it to a lot of solopreneurs who do not yet have a CRM and do not want to stitch together ten different tools. It does real work.
The real problem is not the platform. It is the ecosystem that has grown up around it.
The Affiliate Problem

GoHighLevel pays generous recurring commissions. That has consequences.

Generous recurring commissions are fine in a vacuum. What that has created is a magnet, a steady stream of people who want to earn extra income by selling a tool they got talked into using themselves, often by another affiliate who does not actually know what they are doing either.
Local markets everywhere are full of GoHighLevel affiliates right now, pushing AI automation and GEO/AEO features like it is the second coming. To be clear, these are not agencies. A lot of them are home-services people, random self-proclaimed experts, and AI grifters who got their own sales pitch six months ago and now they are passing it down the line.
We get it. The economy has been tough. But respectfully, please stop selling products instead of solutions.
The Bigger Issue

More digital tools is not the answer. The industry needs to get back to the basics.

Do not get us wrong. AI in marketing is phenomenal. We are all in on it, as much as anyone. But here is what nobody selling the shiny object wants to talk about: you do not have a foundation for this yet.
You do not have brand guidelines. Your website looks like it was built during the Obama administration. Your Google Business Profile is half filled out with two blurry photos. You have no analytics, no conversion tracking, no idea what is actually working or where to begin.
That is not a tech problem. No amount of AI optimization fixes a brand that does not exist yet. GEO and AEO matter. They will matter more every year. But with no trust signals and no reason for someone to pick up the phone, what exactly did that impression, that mention, that burst of AI traffic actually do for you? Maybe take that money and buy a better hosting plan first. It is not sexy. But why does everyone overlook this step?
Decision Framework

Should you use GoHighLevel? Honestly, it depends.

GoHighLevel is a good fit if you:

  • Have the brand foundation in place, website that converts, consistent visual identity, a real offer.
  • Are losing leads because follow-up is inconsistent or manual.
  • Are paying for three or four separate tools (CRM, email platform, scheduler, SMS) and the pieces do not talk to each other.
  • Actually want to learn a system and use it, or have someone who will.

GoHighLevel is probably not the right first move if you:

  • Do not have a working website yet, a CRM does not replace a real website, and GoHighLevel's built-in site builder is not a substitute for a properly built WordPress site.
  • Do not have a clear offer or brand identity.
  • Have no leads coming in to nurture, a CRM does not create leads, it manages them.
  • Are buying it because someone on Facebook told you AI will change your business.
If you are in the second list, a CRM is not your next step. Fixing your foundation is your next step. We will tell you that honestly, even though we earn nothing when we do.
Why We Like It

What we actually use GoHighLevel for, and why we offer it as our white-labeled CRM.

When we build a website for a client, we do not build it in GoHighLevel. Our websites are custom, high-performance WordPress builds. We do not use GoHighLevel's site builder or funnels as a substitute for a real website, and we would push back on any agency that tried to sell you that as your primary web presence.
What we do like about GoHighLevel, and why we offer it as our white-labeled Volusia Digital CRM, is that it is a cost-effective CRM we can give our clients that actually has the tools they need to succeed:
  • Email marketing with real deliverability infrastructure.
  • Follow-up solutions, automated sequences, SMS, missed-call text-back.
  • Social media planning and scheduling.
  • AI integrations for drafting, qualification, and customer communication.
  • Marketing automation that runs in the background whether you are working or not.
  • Pipelines, calendars, reputation management, and reporting in one place.
That is a lot of capability at one price, and consolidating it under one CRM saves most small businesses real money compared to paying for four or five separate tools that do not talk to each other. For higher-volume merchants who want lower processing fees and more stability than Stripe inside GHL, we also have an honest breakdown of NMI as a GoHighLevel payment processor.
The Three-Layer System

Where GoHighLevel fits in the bigger picture

A real online presence has three layers, and all three have to be in place for the whole thing to work.
1. Custom high-performance website, your foundation. Owned by you, built for your business, fast enough to actually convert visitors.
2. Paid advertising solutions, the engine that brings qualified traffic to that site on demand, with conversion tracking tied to real business outcomes.
3. Marketing CRM (the Volusia Digital CRM, powered by GoHighLevel), the system that catches every lead, follows up consistently, and turns the traffic your site and ads generate into actual revenue.
Each layer covers a different part of your online branding strategy. The website is where people land. The ads are what bring them there. The CRM is what makes sure nobody falls through the cracks after they arrive. None of the three is optional, and none of them replaces the others. GoHighLevel is one piece of a system, not the system itself, and that is why we like it, and why we are careful about how we position it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about GoHighLevel

Worth it for businesses that already have a working website, a clear offer, and lead flow they need to manage better. Not worth it for businesses without those foundations, because a CRM does not produce leads, it organizes the ones you already have. The honest answer for many small businesses is fix the foundation first, then add the CRM.

GoHighLevel is purpose-built for small marketing-driven businesses, agencies, and solopreneurs. HubSpot scales further into enterprise but costs ten to fifty times more for similar functionality at the small business tier. Salesforce is the wrong tool for almost any business under fifty employees, the configuration alone consumes a full-time hire. For most Volusia County small businesses, GoHighLevel is the right choice on cost and capability. For larger or specialized operations, HubSpot or Salesforce may be appropriate.

GoHighLevel's direct pricing starts at $97 a month for the Starter plan and $297 a month for the Unlimited plan, going up from there for agency-level features. Our white-labeled version (the Volusia Digital CRM) is included in our Solo and Full performance plans starting at $325 a month and includes setup, training, and ongoing support, which the direct subscription does not. See full agency pricing.

No, and we would push back on any agency that tells you it can. GoHighLevel has a built-in site builder, but it is not a real WordPress alternative. Sites built in it are slower, less SEO-friendly, harder to migrate off of, and locked into the platform. Use GoHighLevel for what it is good at, CRM, automation, follow-up. Use a proper WordPress site for your web presence.

The interface is dense because the platform does a lot. A solopreneur willing to spend ten hours learning it can run a real CRM. A small business owner who hates software will struggle without help. That is part of why we offer it as a managed white-label, you get the platform plus the setup and training so you do not learn it the hard way.

It means we earn a recurring commission if you sign up through our link and stay on as a paying subscriber. It does not change what you pay, you get the same price you would get signing up anywhere else. It is disclosed publicly per FTC requirements. Our review of the platform on this page is what we actually believe based on years of using it, not what we would write to maximize commission.

If you are confident GoHighLevel is right for you and you want to set it up yourself, our affiliate link costs you nothing extra and supports our work. If you want help configuring it, integrating it with your website, building automations, or training your team, work with us directly. Both are valid. The choice depends on your time, budget, and how comfortable you are with the platform.
